South China to embrace snow, rain

BEIJING - Snow and rain will fall on most parts of China's southern regions in the next three days as the week-long Spring Festival holiday nears its end and millions of people start returning to work in the cities, China's meteorological authority said Friday.

China Meteorological Administration (CMA) said that most parts of south China will see precipitation from January 27 to 30, while light snow or fleets will hit the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.

A weak cold air front will affect China's central and eastern regions from Saturday to next Monday, bringing a temperature drop of four to six degrees Celsius, said the CMA.

The coming snow and rainfall, together with the temperature drop, will have a certain impact on traffic and transportation as post-festival travel peak nears, said the CMA, warning passengers of travel safety on the way back.

The Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, which fell on January 23 this year, is a time for family reunion in the nation traditionally.
