BEIJING - Official microblog accounts opened by China's national office against organized crime have garnered some 600 reports from the general public since their inception on Sept 20.

The office has opened accounts on four microblogging sites provided by major Internet portals, including xinhuanet.com, people.com.cn, sina.com and qq.com, in a bid to "create channels for whistleblowing and for the public to be part of the campaign against organized criminal gangs," according to a statement issued by the office on Sunday.

The office, now with 350,000 microblog followers, has published over 140 tweets in total, covering reports on major cases, information verification procedures and the office's working schedule.

The statement said the office will reply promptly to whistleblowers and pass along information to relevant authorities for verification. The results of the office's investigations will be disclosed on its microblog accounts in a timely fashion, according to the statement.
