Equipped with GPS navigation system, the home-made satellite, named Fajr, was put into orbit aboard Safir launch vehicle.

The satellite was put into elliptical orbit of 250 km to 400 km, according to Press TV.

The satellite was completely designed and built by Iranian experts in aerospace industries of Defense Ministry and Iran's Electronic Industries Company, the Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan was quoted as saying.

Iran, a founding member of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, launched its first domestically-made data-processing satellite, the Omid (Hope), into space in 2009.
