Where lovebirds flock for Qixi

By YANG FEIYUE | China Daily | Updated: 2017-08-21 08:07

Many lovebirds are splurging on long-haul flights for Qixi, or "Chinese Valentine's Day", which falls on Aug 28 this year.

Bookings with HHtravel, a luxury brand under China's biggest online travel agency, Ctrip, surged 35 percent during this period, chief operating officer Guo Ming says. Per-capita spending ranges from 100,000 yuan to 120,000 yuan ($14,970-$17,960).

HHtravel has announced the most-popular destinations for its affluent and amorous customers during the period.

Sardinia

Italy's second-largest island is celebrated as a romantic getaway. The Forte Village Resort is hidden in serene forests and offers privacy, seawater spas and sports. It also proffers performances and gourmet dining.

Costa Rica

The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve possesses a natural appeal, in every sense. The Four Seasons Hotel in the Gulf of Papagayo offers a private beach, horse riding, golfing and rainforest adventures.

Australia

The Gold Coast features fantastic shorelines and sparkling waves. Lovers can explore glowworm caves that resemble the Milky Way at night. The Qualia Resort on Hamilton Island offers private beaches, water spas and island views. Helicopter experiences are also available.

Kenya

Laikipia is frequented by the British royal family for its picturesque scenery and private resorts. Lovers can stay at the Loisaba Wilderness Lodge, where they can enjoy views of the African sky while watching wildlife roam the prairies. Luxury camping adjacent to the Masai Mara's forest offers vistas of migrating gnus.

Hawaii

The archipelago's second-largest island, Maui, features volcanic formations, emerald forests and beautiful beaches. Couples can snorkel at Molokini's crater, half of which has been submerged by the rising sea. Tropical fish flit among black coral.
