Beijing Happy Valley amusement park unveiled its third phase construction of two air-conditioned indoor pavilions with 13 new recreational facilities on May 31, during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday.

It has taken three years to complete the 500 million yuan ($80 million) project. The Magic Marine Pavilion is decorated in a marine theme and features multimedia special effects, making guests feel as if they are under the sea.

The facilities include a simulated roller coaster experience in the four-dimensional cinema and an assortment of rides targeted at families, with some especially for children. The Happy World pavilion offers a 12-minute indoor drift, allowing adults and children to visualize touring the world, visiting such sites as the North Pole by four-dimensional technology.

Along the stream are landmarks from all over the world and cartoon sculptures wearing the traditional clothes of different ethnic groups. The 30-minute performance Chivalrous Robber Li San has special effects that include explosions and actors falling from high buildings. The story revolves around the legend of Li San, a famous thief who robbed the rich and helped the poor in 1920s Beijing.

The opening of the third phase brings the number of facilities at Happy Valley to 52, of which 35 are classified as suitable for families, and 17 are considered “breathtaking” and limited to healthy adults only. The tourist capacity of the amusement park has increased by 40 percent. “With the opening of the new facilities, all people — children, youngsters or the aged — can enjoy themselves here,” said general manager Zhao Xiaobing.
