It was raining and the home team lost - and the fans loved every second of it. Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid crushed the Chinese league's Tianjin Teda 6-0 at its home stadium. Real boss Jose Mourinho was satisfied with the victory and said his side gave the crowd what it wanted - a good match.

Hall of Fame inductees honored
Three-time Super Bowl champion Shannon Sharpe, receiver Deion Sanders and star rusher Marshall Faulk were among seven inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Gridiron videographer Ed Sabol and players Richard Dent, Chris Hanburger and the late Les Richter were the others enshrined.

A glaring gap on Adam Scott's otherwise impressive resume has been the lack of a major title, but his commanding victory at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational suggests that could soon change. Leading from the front, the 31-year-old Australian completed a wire-to-wire victory by four strokes in Akron, Ohio.

Brownlee ready for London Games
Alistair Brownlee will go into the London 2012 men's Olympic triathlon at short odds to deliver a home victory. Brownlee, 23, the 2009 world champion, destroyed all his major rivals in the London leg of the world series over the same Hyde Park course that will be used in next year's Games.

Clijsters' title defense in doubt
Kim Clijsters' US Open title defense is in doubt after she pulled out of the WTA Toronto hardcourt tournament with a stomach muscle injury. Clijsters was leading 6-3, 1-2 in her second-round match against China's Zheng Jie when the Belgian hit a forehand, shook her head and quit the match.

Goal-scorer Sebastian Schweinsteiger said Germany need fear nobody on the international stage after its impressive 3-2 win over Brazil in Stuttgart as rising star Mario Goetze shone against the South Americans. "It has shown we don't need to hide from anyone at this level," the Bayern Munich star said.

Coe seeks to boost London's image
Sebastian Coe, chairman of the 2012 Olympic organizing committee, expressed confidence that the riots in London over the past week will not tarnish the image of next year's Games. "I have spoken to some of the world leaders of sport over the last couple of days and that's the view they take," Coe said.
