Cross-border e-commerce inspection applications in the first two months this year increased 118 percent compared with the same period last year, liangjiang.gov.cn reported.

There were 168 applications, with a total value of 31.7 million yuan, 49 percent higher than the same period of 2015.

The products are mainly food, healthcare products, textiles, and cosmetics. Milk powders from the UK, the US, Germany and the Netherlands are very popular. Cosmetics from Japan, Korea, France and Germany, including shampoo, facial masks and lotions, are also popular.

VIP.com settled its southwest operation center in Chongqing on Jan 8, with a total investment of more than 200 million yuan. In addition, established cross-border e-commerce companies such as Igetmall are active in the city.

Chongqing was one of the first national e-commerce trial cities. A cluster of e-commerce businesses developed rapidly there. Today, ninety percent of the businesses are cross-border ventures.

Liangjiang New Area was the first industrial new area in inland China, and launched favorable innovative policies to facilitate cross-border e-commerce.

By the end of 2015, sales of Chongqing Bonded Area cross-border e-commerce reached 460 million yuan, said Tang Lin, president of Chongqing Bonded Tariff Company.
