The view of Lujiazui from the Bund is one of the most photographed places in China. Wu Ni chats to a photographer obsessed with the iconic skyline.

The panoramic view of Lujiazui from the Bund, taking in the Oriental Pearl TV Tower as well as some of the nation’s tallest skyscrapers, is the iconic image of Shanghai and often used to visually represent China. While the skyline has long been a popular subject for photos, photographer Zhang Haitao has tried to discover some new, creative angles to shoot the familiar view.

Zhang Haitao, senior member of China Photographer Association, likes shooting cityscapes, and the iconic Shanghai silhouette is his favorite.

He says that there is a puddle of water on the viewing platform of the Bund every morning after sanitation workers clean the dustbins. Put the camera close to the puddle and one can get the reflection of Lujiazui in the water. He reverses the photo in post-production, creating a mirror effect.

And when some leaves fall in the puddle, the whole image gives the feeling of deep autumn.
