 A man walks past a pool of water polluted by a treatment plant in Chaohu, East China’s Anhui province, Dec 17, 2010. The plant was operating without an official permit for more than 20 days, before local government shut it down, leaving more than 4,000 tons of ore piled on the ground. Local residents said when it rains, the untreated waste in the pools near the plant flows into the river, which provides water for more than 10,000 residents in the town.
