Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone highlights the“Internet Plus” strategy, which makes e-commerce a priority in driving regional industrial growth, and it has made some significant achievements.

The zone, which is located in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, proposed an “Internet Plus e-commerce” strategy to meet the increasing demands of emerging industries several years ago.

E-commerce businesses have been settling in the zone since 2014. In 2015, the zone saw an e-commerce boom due to the accelerating pace of construction along the Silk Road Economic Belt, and another 90 new e-commerce businesses were set up.

During this time, an e-commerce organization called “Tianshan Club” was established by well-known businessmen and experts in the field, where they can exchange industrial information and share experience. Up until now, more than 300 e-commerce businesses have joined.

On May 31, 2016, Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone signed a cooperation agreement with Zhubajie, a leading service outsourcing platform in China, to boost Xinjiang’s creative services industry.

By the end of June, 2016, there were a total of 320 e-commerce businesses in the zone, which covers seven sectors including online retail, online wholesale and cross-border e-commerce. Famous e-commerce businesses from both home and abroad such as Vipshop, Jingdong Mall, and Suning Commerce Group, have chosen the zone to do business.

In addition, it has four hackerspaces as well as three business incubators. The zone has also been designated a national e-commerce demonstration base.
