A total of 1,200 units of indemnificatory housing for low-income residents will be completed in 2017 in the Economic and Technological Development Zone, Urumqi city.

The 1,200 indemnificatory apartments covering an area of more than 60,000 square meters are about to complete roof construction, said Wang Jinyong, vice director of the development zone's planning property bureau, on Nov 8.

"The indemnificatory houses will mainly accommodate employees from the local enterprises to help them solve living problems," Wang said. All the apartments are simply decorated and employees who have their work contracts in the development zone can apply for occupancy.

The indemnificatory housing project, including the ancillary faculties such as vegetable direct outlets and gatehouses, cost 240 million yuan ($37.56 million).

One of the indemnificatory residential communities, Jinxiu Jiayuan Residential Community, started construction in August and included ten buildings, covering 30,720 square meters with each apartment occupying 30-50 square meters.

The indemnificatory housing project launched by the local government is an important part of the livelihood project in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. The project is intended to protect low-income families from high property prices though offering cheaper flats than those available commercially.
