Meng Jianzhu, head of China's Commission for Political and Legal Affairs, met with the Chief Justice of Singapore Sundaresh Menon in Beijing on August 22.

Meng welcomed Menon and his delegation to the first China-Singapore legal and judicial round-table conference.

“Rule of law is the core element of modern social governance and an important guarantee of a country’s long-term peace and stability,” said Meng.

Great achievements have been made over the past five years in the rule of law in China, he added.

Meng also called for learning from the experience of Singapore in the law sector.

China supported the exchanges and communication between the judicial organs of two sides in an open manner to deepen the cooperation judgments and enforcement in civil and commercial matters, legal guarantees for the Belt and Road Initiative, and other areas.

He hoped the two sides will have deep discussions, establish cooperative mechanisms, and enhance cooperation levels.

Menon echoed Meng, saying that judicial cooperation between the two countries has brought about real benefits.

Singapore will keep improving judicial exchanges and cooperation with China in the spirit of friendly mutual trust, said Menon.
