Although the attendees came from different backgrounds, including state media like Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily and CCTV, influential regional media such as Beijing Times, Nanfang Media Group, Yangcheng Evening News and Guangzhou Daily, and popular personalized news apps like the Paper and Toutiao, they freely shared opinions on better popularization of political and legal information on new media platforms and gave suggestions on promoting judicial openness and transparency, based on their own work experience.

Meng took notes on their advice and urged the head political-legal functionaries from the central government and Guangdong province to maintain a mutually-beneficial interaction with media and take advice with open minds. He called for a welcoming attitude towards negative coverage and criticism.

He said it’s necessary to improve communication mechanisms and services for media at all levels so as to make the reform decisions and progress available to media.

Wang Yongqing, the CPLA’s secretary-general, and Wang Shuangquan, its deputy secretary-general, as well as officials from Guangdong province, including Shen Haixiong, publicity chief of the province, head of the provincial commission political and legal affairs Lin Shaochun, and vice-governor Li Chunsheng also attended the meeting.
