A first-aid training center by the Red Cross Society Zhangjiagang branch opened to the public in Zhangjiagang of Jiangsu province on September 14, 2013. It is the first of its kind in the city.

Training equipment at the new center is more complete than previous temporary training centers. Residents are free to choose training times. Ten trainers gave lectures as well as demonstrate and answer questions on knowledge and skills of first-aid concepts, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and injury treatment.

Cai Xian, vice-president of the Red Cross Society Zhangjiagang branch, said that the first Sunday of every month?will be?opening day. Training will be held twice – 9am-11:30am and 2pm-4:30pm. If there are many people, there will be more opening days.

The Red Cross Society Zhangjiagang branch has carried out a project to train high-risk workers, community residents, officials and students. Their plan for 2013 is to train 3,275 primary medical technicians and 11,482 ordinary people. A total of 1,944 technicians and 5,847 people have already been trained.

When an accident happens, the first 4 minutes is the most crucial. However, most people are scared and don’t know what to do when they see injured people who may have stopped breathing.

“We hope people can learn enough first-aid knowledge and skills to save people when accidents happen,” said Cai.
