Port throughput in Zhangjiagang grows 14.3 percent in Q1

Zhangjiagang continues to lead other ports in Jiangsu in cargo throughput in the first quarter of 2013, the city’s port office said.
The quarter witnessed a total cargo throughput of nearly 61.8 million tons at Zhangjiagang port, a year-on-year increase of 14.3 percent, and about 12.65 million tons of cargo for import and export, a year-on-year increase of 2.6 percent. Total container transport volume in Zhangjiagang reached 400,000 TEU, a year-on-year growth of 34.7 percent.
Transport of commodities such as metallic ore, steel and cement at Zhangjiagang port also saw surges this quarter, reaching 15.39 million tons, 10.8 million tons and 1 million tons, respectively. The numbers represent a year-on-year increase of 14.6 percent, 37.7 percent and 134.5 percent, respectively.
Since the beginning of this year, Zhangjiagang port has made intense efforts to enhance the upgrade and transformation of port businesses and ensure orderly and efficient operations there.
