The Nantong Economic & Technological Development Area issued 27 small loans, 5 million yuan ($804,000) in total, for 52 women to start businesses in 2012.
The women's federation in the zone trained women in new techniques for agricultural production and organized nearly 3,000 women to take part in training in vegetable and fruit-planting as well as aquaculture. The development zone also financed new businesses set up by women, supporting nine women to start entrepreneurship programs such as opening drug stores and other technological projects.
