The stage drama tells the life story of the people of southern China in this unique, open form to give visitors from China and abroad a multi-dimensional experience full of sound and feeling. In addition to the trained performers, a group of local people are asked to take part, including farmers, fishermen, and common folk to make the show more vivid and realistic.
The show depicts Zhouzhuang through the changing seasons, with spring's "Rainy lane", summer's "Picking lotus seeds", autumn's "Harvest", and winter's "Spring festival", along with many folk customs to show its culture more fully.
