Gerbera jamesonii in demand for Tomb Sweeping Day

A gardener cuts Gerbera jamesonii flowers at a greenhouse in Luojiaying village, Saihan district, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region on March 27. As Qingming Festival (Tomb Sweeping Day) approaches, the demand for the flowers especially chrysanthemum has been rising. The greenhouses in Luojiaying village were previously growing organic vegetables and melons. However in 2016, to cater for market demand, local villagers began to cultivate a variety of flowers including the Gerbera jamesonii. Per greenhouse, net profit for cut flowers is three to four times higher than from growing vegetables. [Photo/nmgnews.com.cn]
