An ecological migrant from Ma’an village, Tongren city, Guizhou province, takes a walk around resettlement locations.

Guizhou plans to invest 3.1 billion yuan ($49.65 million) into an ecological immigration project, aiming to resettle 151,083 "ecological" migrants to reduce poverty and protect the environment.

The approximately 150,000 people mostly live in a rocky desertification area that severely affects their quality of life and income levels.

The project will set up 126 resettlement locations around industrial parks and demonstration townships to gather the migrants into relatively developed areas.

Approximately 36,000 new houses will be ready for the migrants, based on a living space of 80-120 square meters per household. Each migrant will be given 12,000 yuan in housing subsidies.

Also, in consideration of the migrants' employment situation, the Guizhou government has implemented a series of supportive measures, including free vocational training and tax preferences for enterprises that are willing to create employment opportunities for the migrants.
