An inspection team consisting of high-rank officials from the Fujian provincial government visited Pingtan county on Friday to investigate its tourism development situation.

Headed by Chen Hua, a member of the standing committee of the provincial Party committee, and Chen Dong, vice-governor, the inspection briskly toured some tourism projects including Haitan old town, a European-style building cluster in Liushui town, and Sunshine Beach.

Pingtan boasts unique natural geographic resources that it should take advantage of and use to create brands, said Chen after the investigation.

Pingtan has had preliminary success in infrastructure construction after three years of development and should gradually shift its focus to the cultivation of key industries, especially high-end and international tourism, said Chen.

At the same time, the local government ought to attach great importance to the preservation of tourism resources and traditions while striving to attract investments, she added.

Chen Dong suggested that Pingtan should make tourism its strategic industry and use it to boost the development of its urbanization, informatization, industrialization and agricultural modernization to build a world-class tourism island.
