The Cross-Straits Medicine Exchange Association (CMEA) will cooperate with a hospital in Pingtan county to beef up cancer prevention efforts.
In accordance with the collaboration agreement, Pingtan Hospital will establish a cancer prevention zone with help from the CMEA, said Jiang Jian, deputy secretary of the association.
Jiang revealed the news at the second Cross-Straits Conference on Prevention and Treatment of Tumors on September 7.
The cancer prevention zone at Pingtan Hospital will help local residents and Taiwan compatriots keep tumors at bay. It will also provide convenient treatment for patients based on the agreement.
"The move will improve overall treatment levels at the hospital and ease efforts to promote the health of local people," said Jiang.
Statistics show that about 3.12 million new cases of cancer tumors occur in China every year. As many as 2.7 million people die of cancer annually. Malignant tumors have become the leading cause of death in Fujian province.
