A half month in, donations from Pingtan, Fujian province, still keep rolling in for victims of the quake in Lushan county, Sichuan province.
A fundraiser for quake victims was held at Lanhua Middle School in Pingtan on Wednesday, May 8, attracting many students and teachers to chip in.
"It is tough to see the quake victims suffering on TV. I feel obligated to lend a hand," said a student.
The fundraiser collected roughly 52,000 yuan ($8,466) in donations. The money will soon be transferred to the Red Cross branch in Pingtan.
"The students all donated their money voluntarily. No matter how much they give away, the gesture is a token of their love for the people in quake-stricken areas," said Chen Jiang, director of the school's moral education office.
As of Wednesday, the Red Cross Pingtan branch has received more than 100,000 yuan for quake relief.
