Among some 200 dead and more than 10,000 injured in the quake that struck Lushan county of Ya'an city, Sichuan province, on Saturday, April 20, none of them hail from Pingtan county, Fujian, Pingtan Times reported Monday.
"I started an engineering project in Ya'an in the past," Chen Renying, vice-president of the Chengdu-Fuzhou Chamber of Commerce, told the newspaper in an interview. "But it finished two years ago and the people with the project have all left. So there are probably no Pingtan people in the quake zone."
No injury or death reports of Pingtan residents have been received. There are few Pingtan residents and enterprises in the quake areas, said Lin Teng, another vice-president of the chamber.
The newspaper will continue to keep track of quake casualties. It also suggests that people whose family members are in the quake zone reach out by calling the hotline 0591-24110110.
A 7.0-magnitude quake jolted Lushan county of Ya'an at 8:02am Saturday, April 20, Beijing Time, killing 188 people as of 2:00pm Monday. There are 25 reported missing and 11,950 others injured, according to latest statistics.
