Weng Mengyong, vice minister of the Ministry of Transport, came to the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone on April 1 to support the pilot zone's transportation system plan, project launching and subsidy allocation, Pingtan Times reported.
The minister visited construction sites for the auxiliary bridge of the Pingtan Straits Bridge, Jinjing Dock, and the Round-the-Island Road, noting Pingtan's establishment of a safe, convenient and comprehensive modern transportation system.
Weng and provincial and local officials also discussed current obstacles facing Pingtan's public transportation network and infrastructure.
"With the advantage of State-granted policies in opening up to Taiwan, Pingtan has a great opportunity to become a direct transfer hub between the Chinese mainland market and Taiwan industries," said Weng.
He also noted that an optimized, modern public transportation auxiliary system can provide support for Pingtan's development and opening-up. Pingtan will find a feasible solution for its public transportation system for future development.
Xu Gang, deputy governor of Fujian province; Li Dejin, head of the Fujian Communications Department; and Pingtan leaders Gong Qinggai and You Mengjun also attended the discussion meeting. The director of Pingtan's administrative committee, Gong Qinggai, gave a brief introduction of the pilot zone.
