 了解“殘奧會”

看下面這幅圖片，認出來了吧？北京2008年殘疾人奧運會吉祥物“福牛樂樂”。請看圖片相關文字說明：

相對于“奧運會”，了解“殘奧會”的人并不多。“殘奧會”原是為“脊髓病患者”舉行的運動會，由圖片可知，其相應的英文表達是：the Paralympic Games。很明顯，paralympic由詞綴para-（在……一旁，在……旁邊）和-(O)lympic（奧林匹克）合成而來，它延續了奧林匹克團結友愛、公平競爭的精神，同時又充分表達了奧運會和殘奧會平等共存的關系。
另外，再順便再復習兩個早先學過的單詞：countdown（倒計時）；mascot（吉祥物）。
