Japan issues avalanche warnings after heavy snowfall

Japanese junior high school students walk to
school through the heavy snow in the northern Japanese town of Tsunan
January 13, 2006. Japan issued avalanche warnings on Friday as
temperatures were forecast to rise in areas buried under a record snowfall
that has been blamed for killing more that 80 people and injuring nearly
2,000, many of them elderly.
