China's investment in exploration of oil and gas resources is expected to stand at 80 billion yuan ($13.07 billion) in 2013, according to the Ministry of Land and Resources. Such investment has risen steadily over past years as China moved to reduce its dependence on imports and ensure the security of its energy supply. Fifty-eight percent of China's oil and 30 percent of its natural gas were imported in 2012, according to the Economics and Technology Research Institute of China National Petroleum Corp.
