One of two men charged with murdering a British soldier on a busy London street appeared in court for the first time on Monday. Michael Adebolajo, 28, was remanded in custody until a hearing within the next 48 hours will determine his release on bail.

Indian police say a 30-year-old US woman has been gang-raped in the northern resort town of Manali. Police officer Sher Singh says the woman was picked up early on Tuesday morning by men in a truck as she was hitchhiking back to her guest house after visiting a friend.

A senior Russian official says the Boston Marathon bombings could have been prevented if US officials had followed through with Russian intelligence. Officials previously hewed to President Vladimir Putin's statement that Russia had no information that could have prevented the attacks.

A bomb squad has destroyed an unexploded bomb left over from World War II that was found in the Japanese capital. The work left crowds of commuters temporarily stranded on Tuesday as local lines and the long-range bullet trains that link Tokyo with other cities were halted as a safety precaution.

Pistorius judge attacks media
A South African judge postponed the murder trial of Oscar Pistorius on Tuesday and criticized the media for sensationalist reporting of the athletics star's shooting of his girlfriend on Valentine's Day. Pistorius, 26, remained composed throughout the 10-minute hearing at the Pretoria Magistrates Court when he made his first formal public appearance since his release on bail in February.
