Cattle raiders kill 29 in attack
At least 29 people were killed when cattle raiders from a South Sudanese minority group opened fire on members of another minority in a village in Upper Nile state, a local official said on Sunday. The gunmen crept into Tolleri village in Ulang county in the early hours of Saturday morning and sprayed it with bullets, killing 23 people instantly, said Dak Tap Chuol, commissioner for the nearby town of Nasir.

12 dead, 16 missing in mine
Twelve workers have been confirmed dead after a mine tunnel collapse in eastern Indonesia, but 16 others are still unaccounted for five days after the accident, the mine's US operator said on Sunday. Rescuers retrieved one more body on Saturday and spotted the remains of six other workers, although they have not managed to reach them yet, said the Indonesian subsidiary of Freeport-McMoRan.

Elderly driver injures 60
An elderly driver plowed into hikers marching in a parade on Saturday in the small Virginia mountain town of Damascus, and investigators were looking into whether he suffered a medical emergency before the accident. About 50 to 60 people suffered injuries ranging from critical to superficial, but no fatalities were reported.

Attacks claim at least 16 lives
A string of attacks killed at least 16 people in Iraq on Saturday, while gunmen abducted eight policemen on the country's main highway to Jordan and Syria, the latest in a wave of violence to grip the country.
