China urges halt

China Daily | Updated: 2013-01-17 08:15

China condemned the deadly blast at a Syrian campus and called on all parties to initiate a cease-fire immediately, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.

"China condemns all violence against civilians and is deeply saddened by the large civilian casualties caused by the blast at Aleppo University," spokesman Hong Lei said at a daily news conference.

"Once again, China urges the Syrian government and the opposition to end the violence immediately, protect civilians, follow the consensus of the Action Group Geneva Communique, push forward the Syrian-led political transition, and restore peace and stability in the country at an early date," Hong said.
