Could a gift by any other name smell as sweet?

Female students at Jiangxi University of Science and Technology received a special Girls' Day present courtesy of a dozen male chemistry students: tailor-made perfume.

While the International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8 every year, the previous day, known as Girls' Day, is popular at many Chinese colleges and universities, especially those that concentrate on science and math, and attract fewer women.

The perfume makers, who major in applied chemistry at the university's School of Metallurgy and Chemical Engineering, created the unique fragrances and presented them on Monday in colorful bottles decorated with tassel pendants.

A total of 108 girls received the unique scent.

"On the eve of the Girls' Day, we wanted to make a gift for them. Since we have learned how to refine the essence, we came up with making perfume by ourselves," said Xiong Wanfeng, one of the creators.

Xiong and his classmates collected camellia flowers. Then, under the supervision and direction of their chemical professor, they created a unique fragrance and named it Perfume of Science and Technology.

One woman who received the perfume said the gifts made the Girls' Day quite different and more meaningful.

Women are supposed to be loved. The more you love them, the more beautiful they become. This is not a proverb but a truth that all women in the universe would agree with. Some Chinese men are well aware of that and are trying their best to make this day a special one for their female counterparts.
