BEIJING - China's pharmacologist Tu Youyou returned to Beijing on Monday after receiving her 2015 Nobel prize.

Tu, 84, received the Nobel medal, Nobel diploma and a document confirming the Nobel Prize winnings from King XVI Gustaf of Sweden at the Stockholm Concert Hall on Dec. 10.

During her stay in Sweden, Tu donated her personal items, a plate marking her achievements and a book of her study on artemisinin, or sweet wormwood, to the Nobel Museum.

In a keynote speech at the Karolinska Institutet, she called for "joint efforts to combat malaria and delay the process of artemisinin resistance."

Tu won 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in early October for her discoveries of artemisinin, which is now widely used to fight Malaria.

Together with her team, Tu managed to extract, through trial and error, a substance from artemisinin that proved effective in reducing mortality rates for patients suffering from malaria.
