The photo taken on May 16, 2014 (R) shows Qianshou Guanyin (Thousand-hand Bodhisattva) statue on Baoding Mountain in Dazu District, Chongqing municipality, has been gilded, and looks far different from what it looked like in the photo taken on Oct 1, 2011 (L). The sculpture, carved in the cave with 7.7 meters high and 12.5 meters wide, could date back to Southern Song Dynasty (1127 to 1279). Over the centuries, the sculpture's color has faded, parts of the gold foil covering have peeled off, and cracks have appeared. And thus, a restoration project for the Buddhist statue has been launched since April 18, 2011 and is expected to be completed in 2015. [Photo/IC] |
