By Cang Wei (chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2014-04-07 16:11

Although nuclear families have become the social norm in China, an extended family in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province, has shared the same roof for more than seven decades, cnhubei.com reported.

The family, surnamed Gan, is made up of five brothers, their wives and children, plus two uncles of the brothers, who both have physical disabilities. Led by the eldest brother, the family has 22 members and lives in a three-story building. Its members include teachers, civil servants and soldiers. They share food, expenses, income and family chores.

The brothers said the tradition of taking care of the extended family started with their parents, who were previously caring for the uncles.
