Guo Bin, the 6-year-old boy whose eyes were gouged out in August in Shanxi province, was discharged from the hospital on Thursday.

An evaluation from the hospital said that Guo has not only grown taller and gained weight, but has been more active during his stay in the C-MER (Shenzhen) Dennis Lam Eye Hospital.

A video released by the hospital shows the boy using a computer and playing with toys and a musical instrument.

Guo's parents decided to take the boy home when they felt satisfied with his progress. The Disabled Person’s Federation of Taiyuan, Shanxi province, will help Guo choose a school after he returns home.

After checking in at the hospital on Sept 10, the boy received an ocular prosthesis implant surgery and had cosmetic eye shells.

The hospital performed the surgery for free and will not requiring payments for the medical care. They have also provided free physical therapy and psychological counseling from volunteers and experts from Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

On Thursday, a charity project will also be launched in C-MER hospital, where the hospital will donate 500,000 yuan annually for patients with eye diseases who come from poor families.
