CHANGSHA - A Chinese farmer stood trial Thursday for a road rampage that left six people dead and nine others injured in the central province of Hunan three months ago.

Tian Shengming, 44, was charged with murder, endangering public security and illegally possessing weapons at the intermediate people's court in Zhangjiajie, according to a statement the court released after the trial.

Tian was infuriated after a confrontation with a fellow villager surnamed Huang on May 28. He hopped in his truck and ran over Huang twice. Tian did not stop but drove on for another two kilometers, hitting any people and cars he saw before being subdued by local citizens and officials.

According to the statement, Huang, the victim, played poker with several other people and borrowed 200 yuan ($31.7) as gambling money from Tian, who was watching the game.

The two bickered over the game and Huang said he would only pay 150 yuan back to Tian, angering Tian.

The rampage also left nine cars and one roadside house damaged.

After being taken into police custody, Tian confessed that he had a homemade gun and some bullets. Police later found the weapons at his home.

The trial ended on Thursday, but the court said it would issue a ruling on the case at another time.
