MOSCOW -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin held talks here Tuesday at the 13th regular meeting of Chinese and Russian prime ministers.

Russian and Chinese leaders called on Tuesday for world finance to use a wider range of currencies, and Putin suggested bilateral trade in roubles and yuan rather than dollars. [Agencies]

The regular meeting mechanism consists of three branches that cover the prime ministers' meeting, cultural cooperation and energy resources negotiations.

Trade between China and Russia grew by 23 percent year on year in the first nine months of this year to US$43 billion, according to Chinese official data. The two countries have set thetrade target of 60 to 80 billion dollars in 2010.

Wen arrived here Monday on a three-day visit to Russia. Wen's two-nation tour will also take him to Kazakhstan for a visit.

He is also scheduled to attend the 7th prime ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan.
