Chinese provinces' energy intensity on the decline

(Xinhua) Updated: 2016-04-21 10:41

BEIJING - Energy intensity declined significantly in most of China in 2015, as the country's efforts to use power more economically bear fruit, official figures showed on Wednesday.

Ningxia Hui autonomous region was the only provincial-level region in which the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) found an increase in energy intensity, the amount of energy consumed per unit of GDP.

Data was unavailable for Tibet.

Jilin province, the country's old industrial base, saw energy intensity drop the most, 10.69 percent, from 2014.

It was followed by Yunnan, Fujian and Hubei provinces, whose energy intensity fell by at least 7 percent.

The NBS earlier said that China's energy intensity as a whole declined 5.6 percent in 2015 from the previous year, following the 4.8-percent and 3.7-percent falls seen in 2014 and 2013.
