Prosperous Sino-Australian friendship shines through at 2025 Chinese New Year reception

Governor of New South Wales Margaret Beazley AC KC, and Speaker of the NSW Parliament Greg Piper have expressed the hope to strengthen China-Australia relations and cooperation with China to benefit people of both sides.

Both the governor and the speaker attended a reception to celebrate the 2025 Chinese New Year of the Snake and to welcome Chinese Consul General Wang Yu on Jan 17, whose role was welcomed by Australians at the event.

Wang Yu extended New Year greetings to the guests, highlighted the significant achievements of the vision and major initiatives proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as the new milestones of Chinese modernization. He also expressed his commitment to work closely with all sectors across NSW to deepen China-Australia relations and to facilitate China-NSW collaboration.

Present at the reception were about 500 guests, including representatives from DFAT, members of the NSW government and parliament, mayors and councillors, as well as representatives from business, academia, culture and consular corps in Sydney, as well representatives of overseas Chinese groups.
