Shandong province has been holding a series of festive fairs, known as ganji in Chinese, featuring Yellow River, Grand Canal, and ocean culture. These events are being held simultaneously from Jan 7 until early March.

The Yellow River, the Grand Canal, and the ocean hold significant cultural importance in Shandong.

The Yellow River, known as the mother river of the Chinese nation, nurtured the culture of Qilu, while the Grand Canal brought commercial prosperity and created a unique canal culture. The ocean, meanwhile, was crucial to Shandong's economic and social development.

These three elements constitute the cultural arteries and corridors of the land.

Fairs are highly popular in the province, representing its unique economic and cultural values. They not only combine traditional markets with new consumption patterns but also showcase traditional culture, enhance cultural identity and people’s sense of belonging, and promote cultural innovation.

Shandong also uses fairs to enrich rural culture and boost rural economies. The fairs boasting Yellow River, Grand Canal and ocean culture not only bring joy and festivities but also contribute to the revitalization of rural culture, combining Shandong's traditional culture with modern elements.
