Chengdu introduces humanoid robots for 2025 World Games

Chengdu introduces humanoid robots for 2025 World Games during a press conference.

A group of seven humanoid robots was officially introduced in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, on Friday. These robots are set to serve at the World Games 2025, which will be hosted by the southwestern city.

Revealed during a press conference showcasing Sichuan’s advancements in the robotics industry, the robots are designed for various roles, including torch relay, sports exhibitions, reception, and retail services, according to Liu Sha, an official from Chengdu’s municipal bureau of economy and information technology.

“The unveiling of these humanoid robots signifies a major milestone in Chengdu’s progress in the cutting-edge field of robotics,” Liu stated.

The robots, developed by the Chengdu Humanoid Robot Innovation Center Co., Ltd. (CHRIC), include six prototypes and one conceptual model.

Among them is “Honghu,” a bipedal humanoid robot and Chengdu’s first fully self-developed robot of its kind. It boasts a sophisticated “powerful brain” that allows it to understand, reason, and execute tasks effectively, according to CHRIC President Zhang Ruirui.

Additionally, “Honghu” features China’s first high-speed inference model for humanoid robots based on a diffusion architecture and a multimodal model, enabling it to process external information, interpret abstract semantics, and plan tasks efficiently, Zhang explained.

“Our goal is to provide intelligent and innovative solutions for a variety of scenarios, including industrial production and home life, through advanced robots like ‘Honghu,'” he added.

The World Games, an international event showcasing non-Olympic sports, will take place in Chengdu from August 7 to 17, 2025.
