Exec: Healthcare must be approached with continuous innovation
Guided by the firm belief that healthcare must be approached with continuous innovation as a matter of people's livelihood, a Beijing-born female entrepreneur has been leveraging technology to enhance medical productive forces and aspiring to make medical services more accurate and accessible to the general public.
As a firm believer in the transformative power of technology in healthcare, Gong Rujing, chairwoman and founder of YiduTech, got deeply involved in the AI (artificial intelligence) healthcare industry in 2014, establishing her company that went public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in January 2021 under the stock code 2158.HK.
Gong's vision for YiduTech is to address the challenges faced by China's healthcare industry, including the scarcity of quality healthcare resources amid an aging population with diverse and upgraded healthcare demands. She aspires to break the "impossible triangle" in the medical industry to make medical services more accurate and accessible to the general public.
She said YiduTech has built a team with over 80 percent possessing expertise in medicine or AI, collaborating with renowned hospitals to establish data standards and having published 19 disease data standards with industry experts and disease alliances.
As of Sept 30, 2023, YiduCore, which is YiduTech's "AI medical brain", has processed and analyzed over 4 billion medical records, covering more than 1,700 medical institutions and establishing disease models in nearly 80 disease areas.
Gong, also known as Yingying Gong, pursued her education in the United Kingdom, graduating from the London School of Economics and Political Science with a Bachelor of Economics degree, and later obtained her Executive MBA from Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business in 2012.
Gong noted that YiduTech supports medical institutions in data governance, promoting efficient management of medical resources and cross-regional collaboration.
Due to her outstanding achievement, Gong recently won the prestigious "Healthcare Entrepreneur of the Year" award for 2024, which recognizes innovative healthcare professionals in China who are shaping the future of the healthcare industry and fostering innovation and transformation within the industry.
With a decade of experience in the AI healthcare industry, Gong has advocated for universal and precise "green healthcare", leading the development of a medical data intelligence platform at YiduTech, converting raw, non-computable data into high-quality, computable and applicable data.
"Intelligent healthcare is the general trend of the development of the medical industry, but it requires a process of 'interpretation', as only by ensuring that data can be read by machines could AI technology finally empower healthcare and serve mankind," she said.
By emphasizing the importance of creating valuable barriers before commercialization, YiduTech has developed YiduCore, which assists medical institutions in efficient data governance, making data computable and applicable.
YiduCore can generate insights and knowledge in the medical and health industry, providing value in various scenarios such as public health, research and diagnosis, and treatment, Gong said.
In the face of high investment, high risk and a long cycle of new drug development, YiduTech's MediTrans combines disease understanding with clinical experience to accelerate clinical development, reducing both time and cost, and providing patients with more treatment options.
By establishing a closed loop in the medical industry covering "medicine, pharmaceuticals, insurance and patients", YiduTech will continue to focus on patients and strive to make value-oriented precision medicine benefit everyone, Gong said.
