The world's largest and highest-altitude photovoltaic project under construction, located in Xizang autonomous region, is expected to be connected to the grid by the end of 2025, said its operator China Huadian Corp Ltd.

The photovoltaic project, sitting at an elevation between 4,200 meters and 4,800 meters above sea level while covering an area of approximately 45 square kilometers, is the largest photovoltaic project under construction globally in terms of scale and altitude, it said.

In addition to its size and altitude, the project is notable for its strong emphasis on ecological and environmental protection measures. It aims to be one of the most environmentally friendly clean energy projects, integrating advanced technology to ensure minimal impact on the surrounding ecosystem while contributing to sustainable energy production, said Huadian.

Once completed, the project is expected to generate approximately 5.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. This will save about 1.67 million metric tons of standard coal each year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 3.74 million tons, it said.
