Former Party chief of Wannian county expelled from CPC
Mao Qi, the former Party chief of Wannian county in Shangrao, Jiangxi province, who used his authority to facilitate an inappropriate relationship with his subordinate, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from his post, local authorities said on Sunday.
The investigation by local disciplinary authorities found that Mao violated Party regulations by accepting banquets or travel arrangements that may affect the fair execution of his official duties.
He was also found to have been untruthful during organizational inquiries, engaged in irregularities to benefit others in personnel matters, violated personal conduct rules by engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate, and engaged in corrupt practices by using his position for personal gain in project contracting and fund disbursement, including unlawfully accepting significant amounts of money.
Local authorities said Mao's actions constituted serious breaches of duty and suspicion of bribery crimes, and the assets he obtained through misconduct have been confiscated.
The investigation came after Li Changliu, the father of Mao's former subordinate, Li Peixia, the former Party chief of Shangfang township in Shangrao, posted a video online on July 25, alleging that his daughter had had a dispute with her superior, Mao.
According to the video, Li Peixia had threatened to expose Mao's corruption to the provincial discipline inspection commission.
After the video was posted, local disciplinary authorities announced that Mao was suspected of seriously violating Party disciplines and national laws. The authorities said that Mao had voluntarily confessed and was undergoing disciplinary review and investigation, which then revealed that Mao used his authority to facilitate an inappropriate relationship with Li.
Public information showed that Mao, born in March 1982, is a native of Shangrao, Jiangxi. He joined the Communist Party of China in 2000 and started working in 2003. He has previously worked in the Party committee and the government of Wannian county.
