Venom takes a big bite of China's box office
The final installment in Sony's Venom trilogy Venom: The Last Dance has consistently topped China's single-day box-office charts since its debut on Wednesday.
With Tom Hardy reprising his role as Venom, one of Marvel's most intricate characters, the film follows the symbiote alien and his host Eddie Brock, a freelance reporter, as they evade alien monsters sent by a ruthless adversary from the depths of the cosmos.
Director Kelly Marcel revealed that Hardy often engaged in improvisation on the filming sets and said that Hardy wore an earpiece on the set that remains unseen to record the scripted lines for Venom. Subsequently, Venom's lines were transmitted to him through the earpiece, enabling him to interact with the voice in his head.
Marcel added that she could communicate with him through the earpiece as well. If a spontaneous line emerged, Marcel could relay it to him discreetly and Hardy would incorporate it into the scene seamlessly, according to materials from Sony.
As of Friday, the movie has grossed over 120 million yuan ($16.8 million) in box-office revenue, reports the movie information tracker Beacon.
