Xi congratulates Vietnamese President Luong Cuong
Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to Luong Cuong on Tuesday on the latter's assuming office as Vietnamese president, and called on both countries to strive for more achievements from their comprehensive strategic cooperation to contribute to their modernization drive.
In his congratulatory message, Xi highlighted that in recent years, the leadership of China and Vietnam has maintained close strategic communication, jointly ushering in a new era of building a China-Vietnam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.
Xi mentioned the visit of To Lam, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and then Vietnamese president, to China in August as well as his meeting with Cuong on Oct 11 in Beijing. He emphasized the consensus on both sides on further promoting comprehensive strategic cooperation to ensure bilateral ties develop along the right track.
China firmly supports Vietnam in pursuing a socialist path that suits its national conditions and in preparing for the upcoming 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Xi said.
Noting he attaches great importance to the development of China-Vietnam relations, Xi said he is willing to work with the new Vietnamese president to guide further development of the China-Vietnam community with a shared future toward more substantial outcomes, ultimately bringing greater well-being to the peoples of both countries.
Cuong, 67, was elected Vietnamese president on Monday at the 8th session of the 15th-tenure National Assembly, Vietnam's parliament, for a tenure until 2026.
During the oath ceremony, the new president pledged to fulfill the tasks assigned by the party, the state and the people.
