The Chinese military will never "be swayed by fallacies, deterred by intimidation, or cowed by pressure," China's Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

The ministry spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang made the remarks in a news conference in Beijing in response to Charles Brown, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, who reportedly claimed at the Aspen Security Forum that the United States was "fully confident" of winning a war against Beijing if a conflict broke out over Taiwan.

In addition, during the biennial Rim of the Pacific exercise taking place near Hawaii, one of its subjects is sinking a 40,000-ton amphibious assault ship. Some analysts claimed this was a muscle-flexing act against China.

Zhang said intimidating China with military exercises or aggressive rhetoric will never work.

"The Chinese military will never be swayed by fallacies, deterred by intimidation, or cowed by pressure," he said.

"We have the resolve, capabilities and means to defeat all aggressors and safeguard our national sovereignty, security, and development interests."
