Officer's dedication to making communities better remembered
Jiang Jiuhua, a police officer from the Qingzhu community police station in Qingshen county, Sichuan province, was fatally stabbed while protecting his colleague during a struggle with a suspect in April last year.
Jiang and auxiliary officers Chen Xing and Li Jun were conducting visits in the jurisdiction when they noticed a suspicious man at a gas station at around 1 pm on April 17.
During questioning, the man suddenly attacked Chen with a knife and stabbed him several times. Jiang, in an attempt to protect Chen, quickly engaged in a struggle with the man.
Despite the officer holding the man's neck with his arms to try and control him, the man managed to stab Jiang in the left armpit several times. Jiang tightly held the man and called for help from his nearby colleagues. With the help of colleagues and bystanders, the suspect was detained.
Jiang and Chen were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment with life-threatening injuries. Chen, fortunately, recovered following treatment, however, Jiang succumbed to his injuries, tragically passing away at the age of 46.
