Raising a glass to Yunnan
Ban Shan Yao from Under Clouds, a Yunnan cuisine restaurant in Beijing, has unveiled its new wine list featuring exclusively Yunnan offerings. The menu, aiming to familiarize more guests with Yunnan wines, includes 24 wines from the Shangri-La region.
Shangri-La is one of the rare regions in China that doesn't require soil burial. The combination of high altitude and dry weather results in minimal pests and disease. It can be said that the Shangri-La region possesses all the potential to produce top-quality wines.
With more than 20 snow-capped mountains rising above 5,000 meters, the region is shielded from the intrusion of the Indian Ocean monsoon, creating a distinctive high-altitude, low-latitude terroir with excellent growing conditions.
In 2017, the restaurant collaborated with Shangri-La Winery to craft two wines, a dry white and a dry red, featuring labels designed by the restaurant. Both wines are collectively named Deep, symbolizing the aspiration for a deeper connection with the land of Yunnan.
