Modern fairy tale
Have fairy tales truly become a reality in Denmark?
To honor the 18th birthday of Prince Christian, second in line to the Danish throne, a grand birthday gala unfolded at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen on Oct 15.
Among the glittering tiaras and luxurious ball-gowns, a mysterious guest left behind a golden stiletto at the close of the gala dinner.
"Is it Cinderella who forgot her shoe last night?" wrote the Danish royal palace on social media the following day, with a photo of the shoe.
The identity of the stiletto's owner was swiftly revealed to be Anne Sofie T?rns? Olesen, an 18-year-old student. Unlike the traditional fairy tales, Olesen didn't make a hasty escape to her pumpkin carriage before midnight. Instead, she deliberately left the universally known shoe at the ball.
"I won the invitation in a tombola," Olesen told the Daily Mail. She also clarified that her intention wasn't to capture the prince's attention. "This is only going to happen once in my entire life... I kind of hoped that someone would think it was funny," she told Fox News.
Although the conclusion of this story lacks the typical romantic elements of fairy tales, it has still captured the attention of netizens worldwide. InsDaily made the thought-provoking comment: "In the modern-day fairy tales, Cinderella may not adore the prince, but instead lays traps for them to fall into."
